Slate roofing tiles are a type of roofing material made from natural slate stone. Slate is a dense and durable metamorphic rock that is formed from the compression of layers of clay, shale, and volcanic ash over millions of years.

In addition to their aesthetic appeal, slate roofing tiles are also extremely durable and resistant to weathering. They have a low water absorption rate, which helps prevent water damage, and they can withstand extreme temperatures, making them ideal for use in areas with harsh climates.

Slate roofing tiles are installed using a method called "nailing," in which the tiles are fastened to the roof with nails and hooks. The tiles are overlapped to create a watertight seal, and a layer of underlayment should be placed beneath the tiles to provide additional protection against moisture.
