Is Sandstone any good for paving?

Sandstone paving slabs have a classic and timeless appeal, with a look that is very distinct from any manufactured paving slabs such as concrete or brick. The neutral shades range from light cream and buff, through pink to brown, grey and khaki. Because the slabs are made from natural sandstone that took millions of years to form, your sandstone patio will be very durable. There’s no need to worry about the colors fading or your patio looking worn, which makes sandstone slabs ideal for busy areas such as driveways and patios which have the heaviest traffic levels. Sandstone is also frost-proof and slip-resistant, making it ideal for a family garden or for households who like to make the most of their outdoor space all year round.

Should I Seal Indian Sandstone Paving?

While all natural stones such as sandstone have a resistance to adverse weather like rain and snow, this doesn't mean that over time, your beautiful new Indian sandstone patio will begin to fade but does that mean you need to add sealant once the paving slabs have been laid? The short answer is no, it is not necessary but a big factor is personal taste. Some natural stone patio owners find that the general wear and fade of the paving actually adds character and looks more refined than when they were first installed while others prefer to keep the patio slabs looking fresh and new for as long as possible with the use of sealant.

Fortunately, regardless of which option is best, you have multiple options to choose from. You can opt for no sealant, which will allow for a slight fade over time, adding character to an already stunning looking patio. Another option is to use an invisible sealant, which will keep your sandstone paving looking the same as the moment it was laid without altering the look and feel. Or, you can use a color-enhancing sealant, which not only helps to protect your natural stone from the elements but also enhances the colors of the stone, making the slabs stand out even more.

Sandstone Paving Slabs Options
